Why the DNC is Hiding their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

This move from the Democratic National Committee to withhold the public viewing of its internal autopsy report on the last presidential race appears remarkable but entirely predictable. Resistant to frank assessments, the DNC behaves more like a PR firm rather than a political organization devoted to cultivating local power to secure victories.

An Environment That Avoids Dissent

Reluctant to break with the prevailing attitude of conformity, the DNC has stayed under the influence of the previous administration throughout 2025. Releasing the findings might have shown whether party leaders actually want to foster honest conversation about the strategic failures which allowed Donald Trump to return to the White House. Instead, the committee is acting as if there's nothing to be learned from the stunning loss from the last cycle.

Our guiding principle: will this lead to victory? If the answer is no, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a rationale which was presented for withholding the report.

Major Failures an Autopsy Would Have Explored

An autopsy report with any value would tackle head-on certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Voter Disenchantment: The loss of millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 proved pivotal during the tight recent race.
  • The Insistence to Seek Re-election: The determined decision of the incumbent to seek re-election, alongside an extremely delayed withdrawal, is viewed as robbing the party's base of open primaries.
  • Losing Touch With the Working-Class Base: Amid rising costs, the campaign reportedly accommodating elite contributors without successfully attempting to address the effects of big business.
  • A Gaza Effect: The refusal to reconsider a stance concerning a ongoing war is cited as alienating key demographic groups, particularly among youth voters, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • Losing Youth Backing: Research indicates a major decrease of votes for the candidate from voters aged 18-29.

A Pattern of Evasion

Choosing secrecy fits a recurring tendency of evading hard truths. It recalls a dynamic where the vast majority of elected Democrat in Congress supported an incumbent's insistence on running for re-election until a disastrous campaign event compelled a change.

Concurrently, large majorities of the electorate were repeatedly informing surveyors that they did not want that candidate to run again.

Campaign Spending Issues

A substantive autopsy could probe issues about campaign spending, including how much money went to high-priced advisors as well as media firms over the course of an electoral effort that burned through a colossal war chest during the general election.

A Larger Issue

Fundamentally, the secrecy of the official autopsy points to an allegiance to party leaders who engineered an unsuccessful presidential campaign. The implication for the party's base – including millions of dedicated activists – appears to be that they do not have a right to see what party chiefs have learned from hundreds of interviews compiled from feedback from all states.

A political entity unable to critically review its own failings is unlikely to break free from the rut which was so helpful to the rival party.
